Step 4 · Practise
Practising on the Exness demo account
Every new Exness Personal Area comes with an MT5-based demo account holding 10,000 USD in virtual money. It uses the same platforms as a real account, needs no deposit and no documents, and its balance can be topped up at any time.

In short
- Demo money is virtual: it cannot be withdrawn, and demo results do not carry over to a real account.
- Always check the Demo / Real label before placing an order.
- Five short exercises below cover what most first real trades go wrong on.
Where the demo account is
- Personal Area: the accounts list has Real and Demo tabs; the demo account is under Demo.
- Exness Trade app: demo accounts can be opened and used in the app as well.
- Platform: from the account, choose Trade to open it in Exness Terminal (browser) or log in from MetaTrader 5 with the demo account number.
More demo accounts can be opened in the Personal Area, for example to try a different account type.
Demo account missing from the list? Open a new one in the Personal Area or the app — a demo account can be created again at any time, with any virtual balance.
Topping up the virtual balance
When the virtual balance runs low, sign in to the Personal Area, open the demo account and use its top-up option to set a new virtual balance. A smaller, realistic balance — close to the amount planned for a real deposit — makes practice more useful than 10,000 USD that will never be risked.
Five exercises before a real trade
- Open and close. Open a buy and a sell with the smallest volume, then close both. Find them in the history.
- Stop loss and take profit. Set both when opening, then move them on an open position.
- Volume. Open the same instrument at two different volumes and compare how fast the profit or loss changes.
- Margin. Watch the free margin and margin level change after opening a position.
- A bad day on purpose. Open a position that is too big for the balance and watch the margin level fall. It is cheaper to see a stop out here than on a real account.
What a demo cannot show — and moving to real
A demo account teaches the buttons and the arithmetic. It does not show how decisions feel when real money is at risk, and execution on a real account can differ, especially during news. Past performance is not an indication of future results.
To move to real money: in the Personal Area open the Real tab, open a real account of the same type as the demo used for practice, and make a first deposit (see first deposit). Use the same volume as on demo or smaller — not bigger.
